A metal comb is also handy to have to tease out any mats or knots and to brush hard to reach areas like armpits, in between toes, and behind the ears.  The RIGHT size slicker brush is important as not all coats are created equal!  When in doubt, consult with your groomer about which size is best.   

  • Don’t bathe your dog too often.  Why? Because it will dry out your pet’s skin and possibly create issues such as dandruff, or even hair loss.   

  • Choose the right shampoo. If your dog is sensitive to shampoo, try hypoallergenic, sodium-free, less concentrated, or oatmeal based shampoos. .    

  • Avoid conditioners, unless your dog has long dry hair. Why? Because conditioners may weigh your dog’s coat down, making it appear oily or feel like it hasn’t been washed out.  Conditioners are meant for longer, dryer hair.     

  • Check your pup’s ears for excessive dirt and wax buildup. Never stick anything in your dog’s ear canal!
